Heartbeat first appeared on our screens on the 10th April 1992, with an episode called "Changing Places" - the first
of a trial series of 10 episodes. It was so popular, that fiming went on for another 17 years, a total of 373 episodes.
Filming finally ended on 1st May 2009, and the last ever episode "Sweet Sorrow" was shown on 12th September 2010.

Re-runs of Heartbeat are still shown on ITV3, ITV hub and repeat channels in 140 countries

Studio sets at Yorkshire TV studios in Leeds

Most of the filming for hearbeat was shot on location in and around the village of Goathland, with
occasional scenes shot in Whitby, and also at Otley near the studios in Leeds.

After filming the last episode "Sweet Sorrow" came to an end, the crew packed up, and sadly left the village for good. Some of the
actors and management stayed behind, and hosted a "drinks and nibbles" party at the Inn on the Moor for everyone in the village.

The week after Heartbeat left, the locations manager, Mike Wedgewood, rang me and invited me to go through to
the studios in Leeds to see the final episode being put together. All the studio sets (the Pub, the Garage, the nurse's house, the
police house, the Police station, the hospital ward, Peggy's kitchen, the polce cells etc.) were shut down and in total darkness.
Luckily, I was allowed to get some photos ... all taken in complete darkness - and stitched together later in Photoshop.
